I bought this because my nieces and nephews love helping me in the kitchen and I thought that this would be a good way to get them even more involved. However, after receiving the book, I found that it wasn't what I thought it was. I wish I had been able to see the interior of the book before buying it. I thought that it would have included stories and / or characters in the book. Rather, it is laid out for use in the classroom, ie. after reading "this book" now make "this recipe". Although the kids like the recipes that we've made from this book, it does nothing to help get them involved or excited about the kitchen or about cooking. It does not seem to be formatting for at-home use.

I am a second grade teacher that loves hands-on activities for my students. I even use this at home with my daughter too!

This is a great find, either for a teacher in a classroom setting or a family who wants to broaden their exploration of some fantastic children's literature. The book takes plot lines or ideas from some great kids' books and creates child-friendly recipes to accompany them. Many of these recipes are easy to make in the classroom with a crockpot, toaster oven or microwave. From chocolate moose muffins to accompany "If You Give A Moose a Muffin" to unfried worms to accompany "How to Eat Fried Worms," the smartly-written recipes are a joy in and of themselves! It's like a trip down memory lane of some of the best books from my own childhood, plus it offers me some unique ways to explore these old favorites with my own kids. A real winner!

I am an early childhood educator and I was excited to find this book. I skimmed it in the store and was excited with what I saw so I purchased it. While there are some very good ideas in this book, upon closer inspection I found some things that could be improved on. Some of the recipes are NOT kid friendly such as using toothpicks to hold licorice in marshmallow spiders. Even though the cover says "easy-to-find ingredients" some have very hard to find ingredients such as Vegemite or gray jelly beans, or ingredients that most kids won't eat like chicken livers and scallops, and some make me wonder why an ingredient was used such as Goldfish crackers in Jell-O or bananas, peanut butter and Miracle Whip?! The author didn't do a lot of research for this stating that no one knows what treacle treats are...really? Google it. Many books mention treacle. It's not even close to the recipe. Also, slime is made of Borax and glue. Oobleck is cornstarch and water. I understand this is not a professional cookbook but it was geared toward teachers but I would have expected it to be a little more professional in nature. Word choices such as nuke and moosh around should have been edited. An idea of about how long in a specific wattage microwave would have helped. Also stating that you could use an alternate ingredient if you were incredibly lazy didn't sit well with me. If you don't have a kitchen, you will not be able to make many of these in your classroom unless you have a portable oven, a good portable burner, a refirgerator, and a microwave. It is a great idea and I found recipes I can use with other books besides the ones listed, but many disappointments such as length of cooking or refrigeration time even with the special equipment available.
