As a nursing student, my goal to become a flight nurse. This novel is an in your face reality check when it comes to what anyone in emergency medicine faces. Working in the emergency department, this tale is flawlessly accurate. It will have your heart pulled into a million directions. I laughed and cried. Not only was this a gripping page-turner, but it was educational along the way. Although it’s suspenseful and coming from a medical point of view, even the faint of heart can appreciate this book. I feel like it solidified my decision on becoming a flight nurse.
I have just retired from a 25 year nursing career, most of which was in the ICU but 10 in the ER (in Brookside hospital no less, mentioned in this book). This brings it all back. We had our share of burn patients coming in by helicopter, and I probably turned on the lights for Calstar a few times when they came there to recon with AMR. I always wanted to be a flight nurse and would go for it if I had it over.
She Has Led An Exciting Life. She has worked at a great help to society in saving lives. Her life has had highs and lows. The highs being in a field that helps save lives and the lows in her own struggle with pain and sickness.
Loved this book and found myself searching the authors name hoping she had written some more. I felt like I was there with them on every flight and by the end of it found myself totally wanting to be a flight nurse (I don't, really but the book got you so caught up in it!). I loved every story and was left wanting more.
This is one of the best books I have read.I too am a nurse,and have nothing but respect and awe regarding the intelligence and ability to function in that helicopter dealing with life and death. I congratulate Janice for her career and for writing this wonderful book. I just know she will handle her present illness fine. God bless you Janice.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone interested in emergency medicine. Janice writes. with compassion as you are shown what it is really like to be a helicopter nurse. I was sorry when it ended!

As a prior Air Force medic I'm currently going to school for nursing with a goal of being a flight nurse. This book has taught me so much more about medicine, and of course what to expect on the job. I found this book very hard to put down at times while simultaneously experiencing the same emotions as Janice. Fantastic read. I'm hoping she has more books.
