The magazine found an audience amongst film fans looking for something totally different. Yes, the memories are certainly here, but there ismore. There is the reinforcing of those beliefs(as if it were needed),that yet anotherFilm genre was really that short-lived and is now also deeply buried. Film noir,Screwball comedies,hard boiled whodunits,high adventure romances,saddle-burning horse operas,and yes,hardcore XXX features with plots and ....actors.Those of you for whom this is your particular brand of Darjeeling know whoyou are, and are way ahead of me. This is the best book I have seen in the genre of adult movie posters from the "Golden Age" of XXX movies. This one, authored by Robin Bougie who is best known for his "Cinema Sewer" publications' is full of text, well-researched and written in a witty and very informative manner.The book is full of coloured plates of great adult movie posters and includes details of the films' release dates, actors, directors and where known, the posters' artists.No other books I have seen or own in the same vein as this one compare in its textual information. A great buy!
With releases of DVD/Blu by vinsyn.com, this book has become a must-have. In fact, I cross referenced posters with the adult movies I purchase from vinsyn. This book provided valuable information about the xxx movies produced in the golden era. Although it is in 'paperback', all posters are in color. Highly recommended.
Good and varied selection of adult movie posters from the 1970's and 80's. The reproduction quality is excellent on glossy paper. Along with each image is a short description about the movie. There's no particular order or system to the posters selected other than this is what the author wanted to include. There is a second volume with additional posters also available.
Informative and entertaining book about perhaps the most unique film genre in American history, the likes of which we will probably never see again. A signed hardcover edition (limited to 500 copies) was also available at Robin's website, although I'm not sure how many copies are left. A second volume is due out soon and should be equally as enjoyable as the first.
From the golden age of the erotic cinema when posters were part of what lured lurid customers in. A trip down memory lane! This collection lets you appreciate the art of the sale or the stag, either way a nice art book.
Got this for my girlfriend who works at an adult store and is a huge fan of the industry, loves the book, says it is the best of all the books reproducing posters from this time period. I guess she could be considered a scholar on the subject so buy with confidence if this is something you find interesting
I wasn't around when these film were show. Thank Christ for the internet, I have alot of catching up to do!I know these posters were alot less grimy than the films themselves and Robin has put together the perfect commentary.I am a huge fan of cinema sewer and this is a perfect companion.
