Recieved a week ago and have gone through it it is great. You don't have to start at page one you can read a section that you want to know about, Or if you are just getting interested in horses you can start at the first chapters. I got the book because I wanted to learn more about the do's and dont's with out fitting my horse for trail riding. who better to learn from than the calvry from ww1 the author who rode all over the world,on the most dangerous terrain and different enviroments.It covers different breeds ,bit types and sizing them to horses mouth, grooming, pack size and weights and much more.plus I ADMIRE AND RESPECT THE SOLDIERS AND HORSEMAN OF WW1 MY GREAT GRANDFATHER FOUGHT IN WWI AND WWII.

Very informative. Additional interesting feature was experiencing the written language of the early 1900s.
Type face was not always easy to read. Printing looked like a typewriter with some missing parts of letters. Printing a little small for these old eyes.
Even though it was written in the 30's, it was informative, detailed , and still useful. I would reccomend this book to others as the info is very informative.
This book was written by my father-in-law more than 100 years ago. He was a 1st Lt. in the U.S.Cavalry, serving in the Philippine Islands. It was written for the Army, and considered the finest book ever written on the subject of horses and horsemanship. It was recently re-published by the Long Rider's Guild in England. The Guild is composed of riders who have made a 1,000 mile journey on horseback. They believe it to be the best book written on horses and horsemanship.
Excellent information in this book. My only complaint is that several of the photos, especially those of the saddle and pack are too dark to see the detail.
If you have read Bridle Bits of the American military ,1776-1945 by McPheeters and Dorsey, Manual of Pack Transportation by Daly ,this is a good addition to your library! It also helps understand the purpose of good fitting tac between hourse and rider. This a good book to read for the experinced or novice rider.
