Taking a SQL class with this book. An accelerated class at that, so we are racing through the first four chapters in the first week. The chapters are fairly concise and not lengthy so finding the information needed for assignments is quite manageable. There are plenty of syntax examples, it is well organized, but not quite perfect.
Too many errors, omissions, and assumptions for the money. Not written by a computer science major. Leaves out too many fundamental theories at critical points. This book is not what you should use to prepare students for their future careers.
Good technically, but needs better editing to increase clarity and decrease ambiguities, Took me a long time to decode the precise meaning of the technical instructions in this book due to many ambiguous sentences. This proved very time consuming and frustrating. The instructional flow and organization, however, are quite good,and the topics are very relevant and useful.
It's a book about databases and how to write SQL statements, it's not going to be a fun read. It seemed like a great reference though, well organized and helpful.
The material in the textbook is okay, not bad. Most of it is screen shots of queries and results. But the textbook is so poorly made that it fell apart within a week. It wasn't cheap and I opted for a new copy thinking it would last and be a good reference. I can barely use it and I still have another month in the class. I will not buy another Cengage product again if this is the level of quality they provide in a brand new textbook. Horrible.
Good book. Like the technical info it covers and presents better than another, modern database management by kroenke.
Book is in great condition.
Get book for learning SQL period. After reading each chapter you just feel like an expert at writing SQL statements. You will need to supplement this book with one that goes way deeper into good database design theory if you want to properly construct usable databases at an enterprise level.
